Luke Alfano

Lived Experience Speaker on Grief & Men's Mental Health

Luke lost his dad at 21.

That experience — and everything that came after it — led him to create Too Young To Grieve.

Today, Luke brings lived experience, community insight and original TYTG research into honest conversations about grief, men's mental health and how we support people through difficult experiences.

His talks aren't clinical lectures. They're human conversations — built around storytelling, audience engagement, community insight and research, and the things people often struggle to say out loud.

Community As Medicine

What belonging can teach us about supporting people through difficult times.

After loss, support doesn't always look like therapy.

Drawing on Luke's experience building Too Young To Grieve — from community spaces and conversations to events and peer connection — this talk explores why belonging matters when people are navigating difficult experiences.

TYTG's research found that 97.4% of respondents said connecting with another young person who had experienced loss would or might have helped them.

This talk asks what workplaces, communities and organisations can learn from that.

Luke's experience started the conversation.

But his talks aren't built around one person's story alone.

Through TYTG's Young Grief Project, 3,526 young people shared what grief did, where support failed and what they wish people understood.

Those experiences now help inform Luke's talks and workshops.

Heavy topics.Human conversations.

Lived experience

Luke speaks from losing his dad at 21 and everything that followed — not from a textbook.

Engaging delivery

Grief and men's mental health are serious subjects, but the way we talk about them doesn't have to feel clinical, uncomfortable or inaccessible.

Versatile

From a keynote stage to an intimate team workshop, Luke adapts his delivery to the room, the audience and the conversation that needs to happen.

Backed by real voices

Luke combines his own experience with insight from the TYTG community and original research involving 3,526 young people.

Serious subjects. Honest conversations. Delivered in a way people actually want to engage with.

For workplaces

Grief doesn't stop when someone logs on for work.

53.0% of respondents to TYTG's Young Grief Project said grief affected their career or work.

For people whose most impactful loss occurred between 26 and 30, that rose to 72.8%.

Yet only 7.7% described the support they received as "very helpful".

Luke's workplace sessions help organisations move beyond having a bereavement policy on paper towards understanding what people actually need from colleagues, managers and workplaces after loss.
